Posting announcements prior to 10th September

As you are getting your Hub modules ready for student access on 10th September it may be that you decide to set up an announcement which you would like students to see when they first enter the module. If so, it is highly recommended that you put a post date of 10th September on the announcement so that it will be displayed on that date. Students do not have access to most teaching modules before this date.

The Announcements panels on the My Hub page and student notifications page within a module by default display announcements posted in the last 7 days. If you create an announcement before 10th Sepetember then by putting a post date of 10th September you will ensure that the announcement is visible and recognised as a new announcement in the notifications panels.

Student view tool in the Hub

Since our recent upgrade of The Hub, there have been on-going issues which have impacted on the Student View tool. This tool provides staff with a simulated view of how your module area appears to students. We have been working with Blackboard to resolve this issue but in the meantime, Student View will no longer be available to tutors.

 

By turning edit mode off, this will provide you with an indication of how a student will view your module. You will still be able to view Course Management tools in the menu bar which is never visible to students.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused while we try to resolve this issue. We will update staff as soon as possible on progress.

Date releasing announcements in the Hub

It is possible to add announcements to a module in the Hub and set them to release at a date in the future. This means that you can add a lot of announcements to your module in the Hub and set them to be made available to students in the future. An email is generated for students once the date criteria has passed and the announcement is released. Announcements are also displayed through the Notifications panel in a students’ My Hub page and also through the notifications panel on the actual module area

Please note – for date released announcements:

·         If students have changed their notifications to receive a daily digest, they will not receive an instant email when the announcement is made available. Email digests are available at 3pm daily.

·         If students have changed their notifications not to receive emails for announcements, they will not receive an email.

Sign-up sheet building block testing complete

Testing of the sign-up sheet building block has been completed. Unfortunately, we were not able to iron out the issues that we were trying to resolve. We will return to look at the  holding block in the future to provide an even more capable method of creating sign-up sheets.

Users should continue to use the sign-up sheet functionality as demonstrated in the Hub workshops.

Testing Signup tool in The Hub

We are currently looking at a building block to allow easier use of signup sheets in the Hub. Unfortunately, due to the building block requirements, we have to test this on the live install and not our test environments.

The signup list building block seems to be causing some problems which we are consulting with another institution on. During his time, could we ask staff not to use the single sign-up list and multiple sign-up lists options from the build content menu in your Hub module areas.

We will issue an update as soon as we have completed our testing, and inform users of if the tool will be available or not.

The Hub Scheduled Maintenance Sunday 5th August 2012

The Hub will not be available to users on Sunday 5th August between 01:00 BST and 13:00 BST.

This scheduled downtime is to allow us to apply an important service pack which will provide a more secure environment for all our users. There are no changes to the front-end interface or tools, so users will not notice any significant difference to the environment once maintenance has been completed.

We will confirm to users once this work has been completed.
